Iconic Horror Movies to Watch Now

There are some horror movies that are just so iconic that they’re instantly recognizable – even if you’ve never seen them. The Exorcist, for example, is a classic horror movie that everyone knows about. It has some of the most famous scenes in movie history, and it’s a must-watch for any horror fan. Other iconic horror movies include The Shining, Psycho, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These movies are all classic examples of the genre, and you can definitely bet now that they will give you nightmares.

Christine

Christine is a 1983 American horror film directed by John Carpenter and starring Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, and Harry Dean Stanton. The film’s plot revolves around a 1958 Plymouth Fury that is apparently possessed by a malevolent spirit.

Arnie Cunningham is a shy, social outcast who is frequently bullied by his classmates. One day, he comes across a 1958 Plymouth Fury for sale and becomes immediately obsessed with it. Arnie’s friend, Dennis Guilder, tries to talk him out of buying the car, but Arnie is undeterred. He purchases the car and christens it “Christine.”

At first, it seems like Arnie’s luck has changed for the better; he becomes more confident and popular after getting the car. However, it quickly becomes apparent that Christine is alive and has a mind of her own. The car starts to exhibit increasingly violent and erratic behavior, ultimately leading to a string of brutal murders.

With the police closing in, Arnie descends into madness, completely losing himself to Christine. In the end, the car finally meets its end in a spectacular explosion, but not before claiming several more victims.

Although it was not a critical or commercial success at the time, Christine has since gone on to become a cult classic.

The Howling

The Howling is a 1981 American werewolf horror film directed by Joe Dante and starring Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, and Dennis Dugan. The film follows a newswoman who is sent to a remote California community to investigate a series of brutal killings, only to find that the town is home to a group of werewolves.

The Howling was a critical and commercial success, and is considered one of the best werewolf films ever made. The film has spawned several sequels, none of which have been able to match the original’s critical or commercial success.

The Howling tells the story of newswoman Karen White, who is sent to the remote town of San Francisco to investigate a series of brutal murders. Upon arriving in town, she quickly realizes that the town is home to a group of werewolves. With the help of her husband, she sets out to uncover the town’s dark secret and put an end to the killings.

The Howling is a classic example of a horror film that is able to both terrify and entertain its audience. The film’s mix of scares, comedy, and gore make it a truly enjoyable watch. If you’re a fan of horror films, then The Howling is a must-see.

The Thing

The Thing is a 1982 American science fiction horror film directed by John Carpenter and written by Bill Lancaster. The film tells the story of a group of American researchers in Antarctica who encounter the eponymous “Thing”, a parasitic extraterrestrial life-form that assimilates, then imitates other organisms.

The Thing infiltrates the American base by assuming the shape of a dog that had been brought in from the nearby Norwegian base. It assimilates the town doctor, Blair, and kills everyone else at the base, except for MacReady, Childs, Garry, and Nauls. The four remaining survivors realize that the Thing can assimilate any living being and that it could be any one of them. They attempt to escape in a snowcat, but the Thing stops them. Nauls goes insane and attempts to kill the others, but he is killed by MacReady.

This iconic horror movie has a plot twist so dumbfounding that the only way to find out is to watch it. But beware—you will definitely experience jumpscares.
